About the tutor
The tutor for the groups will be Gordon Lawrie. Gordon recently achieved a Distinction at the highest level possible in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) Traditional Fiddle Exams. He is a member of the well-known Lawrie piping family from North Argyll. In 2012 he was lucky enough to be a "shadow tutor" to Duncan Chisholm and Maeve MacKinnon at the Tinto Trad Music Summer School for young musicians. You can hear some of the great music produced by the talented young musicians at the link below.
Just for fun - the tutor plays some tunes
Gordon says:

"Learning to play the fiddle can be hard work - and takes lots of concentration. I don't believe this should get in the way of having fun and enjoying the music.

I try to keep the groups relaxed and get a bit of banter going. I hate it when people feel uncomfortable in starting out and go out of my way to emphasise that making a few mistakes is just part of the fun of learning. Just to emphasise the point I often enjoy making a few myself !

I started learning classical violin when I was at school and gave up due to constantly having my knuckles rapped (literally) by the teacher's bow. My groups are the polar opposite of that kind of nonsense."
